Abstract: This paper examines the digital-network conurbation system. A comparative characterization of the classic conurbation and a new type of conurbation is provided. The historical development of the spatial organization of the economy has occurred through a sequential change in forms of territorial concentration. Agglomeration, as the initial form, ensured economic growth through the physical proximity of economic agents, economies of scale, and a reduction in transaction costs. At more mature stages of spatial development, agglomeration systems evolved into conurbations, characterized by polycentricity and intensified inter-agglomeration interactions. This article describes a new type of conurbation, the emergence of which has been influenced by the development of digital technologies and artificial intelligence systems. The classic conurbation was formed on the basis of developed transport infrastructure, ensuring connectivity between several agglomerations and urban centers. In this model, the economic space remained rigidly tied to physical channels for the movement of people, goods, and services. Transport accessibility acted as a key constraint on the scale and intensity of spatial integration, and the development of the conurbation required significant capital investment in infrastructure.
