Abstract: This article examines the evolution of monopolistic tendencies in Russia, from the pre-revolutionary period to the present day. This study provides a detailed historical overview, identifying the roots of current problems. This article aims to trace monopolistic formations through the prism of various political and economic systems, assessing the influence of the state on the formation and support of monopolies at different periods. The transition to a market economy in the 1990s was marked by the emergence of new forms of monopoly associated with the privatization of state property. As a result of this process, large assets ended up in the hands of a limited number of individuals, which contributed to the formation of oligarchic structures controlling entire sectors of the economy. The state, in turn, did not always have sufficient instruments to effectively regulate these processes. Today, monopoly power plays a significant role in the Russian economy, since Russia, as a major player on the global stage, is firmly tied to the monopolistic system.
