Abstract: This article examines the phenomenon of digital shift as a result of a comprehensive transformation of the economic structure, extending beyond the technological modernization of individual industries. Based on a synthesis of institutional, evolutionary, and neo-Schimpeterian theories, it is demonstrated that digital transformation modifies economic relations associated with capital accumulation, production and consumption, market exchange, and government regulation. It alters the mechanisms of value creation and its realization as market value through the development of digital platform ecosystems, the informatization and demonetization of market exchange transactions, and the transformation of production factors. This article examines the nature and dual consequences of a digital structural shift in the oil and gas industry, which is under the influence of the energy transition and the digital technological revolution (the expansion of Industry 4.0 technologies). Based on a synthesis of technological paradigms, evolutionary economics, and the platform approach, it is demonstrated that digitalization is transforming the structure of not only the industry but also the entire national economy. The industry-specific nature of this digital structural shift is defined as a transition from a vertically integrated model of value chain formation based on control over physical assets and natural resources to a network model where digital twins of fields, integrated data platforms, and predictive analytics competencies are becoming key assets. This digital shift brings with it radical changes in the sources of competitive advantage for the entire national economy in the global raw materials and technology market, as well as cost and rent structures, altering intercountry flows of energy resources as a commodity and creating new opportunities for sustainable growth for countries with resource-based economies.
