Abstract: The article considers the key methods of assessing the impact of the industrial sector on the sustainable development of Russian regions. The peculiarities of this relationship have been analyzed, and the need for an integrated approach to assessment that takes into account economic, environmental and social aspects is emphasized. An overview of existing methodological approaches, their strengths and weaknesses, as well as examples of application with specific regional data are presented. The authors review and evaluate the role of the industrial sector in the socio-ecological-economic development of the Kemerovo Oblast. By means of studying the key indicators of the SPED (“System of Sustainable Development Indicators”) assessment system, the main trends in terms of the economic potential of the region were identified. The role of large industrial companies in the socio-economic development of the regions of their presence, as well as the development of single-industry towns was assessed. The authors studied the activities of one of EVRAZ's key assets – West Siberian Iron and Steel Works – aimed at improving ESG mechanisms. The authors analyzed the key socio-economic and environmental projects of the company in the cities of the Kemerovo region. Based on strategic planning tools, they assessed the effectiveness of EVRAZ's activities aimed at the sustainable development of the Kemerovo Region.
