Abstract: In the current conditions of high competition for labor resources between sectors of the economy, the issue of strategic priorities for the formation of human capital in a separate sector of the economy is becoming relevant. The purpose of the study: study of the development of human capital in the agro-industrial complex (AIC) of Russia. The study used the following methods: comparative, analytical, economic and statistical. In the context of the rapid introduction of digitalization into economic processes, qualified personnel with high-level competencies and different focus areas, capable of making decisions in conditions of increased risk and in critical situations, allow the organization to continue its functioning for the future. A feature of the agro-industrial complex is the specialization of production processes, requiring employees to have certain skills and knowledge, which in turn leads to the introduction of such a tool for the formation of human capital as mentoring. The article proves that digitalization of the main production processes is part of an improved mechanism for the development of the agro-industrial complex of a separate region and the country as a whole. It is shown that further research into the development of human capital in the agro-industrial complex of the Russian Federation should be carried out on the basis of the mentoring institution using digital platforms, which will allow the formation of a personnel reserve
