Abstract: The development of the economy of any country largely depends on the working capacity of the population. Life expectancy and health of people directly depend on the quality and provision of the population with medical services. Russia is better provided with medical workers than many countries in the world. However, despite this, in the Russian healthcare there is an imbalance in the labor market with a shortage of medical personnel. The purpose of the study is to identify the key factors that determine the equilibrium in the labor market and the way out of it in the short and long term. It has been established that the dominant factor is wages in the healthcare sector, subject to its fair territorial and educational differentiation, as well as the overall growth of solvent demand for medical services from the population. The important role of attracting young specialists to medical institutions in rural areas and urban-type settlements is also determined.
