Abstract: The article examines the category of economic security from the perspective of the theories of macroeconomic cycles, the basis of which are the provisions on phase transitions and crises. The author's understanding of the connection between the cyclicality of macro- and mesoeconomic dynamics and long-term changes in reproductive and technological indicators of economic security, which consists in fluctuations in the structural proportions of the economy (structural cycles), is presented. The limitations of the application of existing theories of business cycles to the analysis of long-term changes in indicators of economic security in Russia, associated with a series of negative structural shifts during the period of market transformations, are identified. The object of study is the economic security system, formed in the course of changes in the reproductive and technological structure of the national economy. The subject is the impact of economic cycles on national economic security as a structural phenomenon. The purpose of the study is to formulate the main provisions of the theory of economic security of the country from the position of modern theories of cycles and crises. The article provides a generalization of the main factors influencing macro- and mesoeconomic cycles on changes in economic security indicators that determine the level of protection from its threats in the long term.
