Abstract: The article is devoted to the analysis of new trends in the development of con-glomerates in a commodity-dependent, caused by new conditions due to increased decarbonization of the world economy. The results of the analysis show that neither the volume of coal production in Russia nor the size of its exports has decreased over the past 5 years, but even increased. If there was a slight drop in the volume of coal production by the largest coal mining enterprises of Kuzbass over the past 5-6 years, it was fully offset by an increase in the last 2 years. The noted increase in coal production confirms the assumption that the expansion of the "green agenda" is a long process that requires technological reinforcement, which, in turn, involves significant investments in this area, and the reaction of the extractive sector of the economy will be "delayed". The approach chosen by regional conglomerates in these conditions to counter external challenges based on changes in the production structure is revealed.
