Abstract: The article discusses the trends in the influence of the digital ecosystems that have formed at the current time on the development of small and medium-sized businesses in the Russian Federation. The concept of digital ecosystems and their types formed in the Russian economy is given. The types of small and medium-sized businesses are presented in the format of legally established criteria for classifying businesses in these categories. The dynamics of the development of micro-, small and medium-sized enterprises in the Russian Federation over the past 5 years, as well as the dynamics of the formation of the so-called self-employed sector, i.e. individuals registered as payers of the Professional Income Tax. The advantages and risks of the influence of digital ecosystems on the development of small and medium-sized businesses in terms of ensuring the sustainable development of small and medium-sized businesses in the Russian Federation are highlighted. IN article we propose to separate the function of self-organization of digital ecosystems from the function of their self-regulation.
