Abstract: In recent years, the research of tourism strategic development has been conducted more and more actively, as evidenced by scientific publications in Russia abroad. The existing research experience and the results of scientific research are important to determine the specifics of tourism development in the Lipetsk region. Focusing on their own research, the authors of the article draw conclusions about the state of tourism in the region, as well as about the prospects for its further development. Lipetsk Region is a region with a steady pace of tourism development. By now, we can talk about product groups representing the Lipetsk region in the tourism market, as well as about the competitiveness of both regional tourism products and the region as a tourist destination. The assessment of the tourism potential of the region, which is currently taking place, allows us to identify the main trends, targets (potential) for further development of the regional tourism sector, as well as to identify key implementation problems and resource constraints. Structuring scientific results in the main competitive areas of the region in the field of tourism: natural resources, market, human capital, innovation, information and cultural and historical environment, investments in tourism) allows us to approach the formation of a tourism development strategy in the Lipetsk region at a new stage.
