Abstract: At the current stage of sustainable development, the transition to a green economy is constrained by investment, innovation, and infrastructure barriers to the growth of competitiveness of alternative energy and industry based on recycling and lean production, expansion of green employment and changes in the structure of output and consumption in favor of goods and services, neutral to the environment. As a result, a green economy remains the feature of technologically advanced developed countries, and the convergent processes in which developing countries are involved make it impossible to increase their well-being without increasing resource consumption and environmental pollution. As a result, the global volumes of greenhouse gas emissions, waste accumulation, and drinking water consumption are steadily increasing. Against this background, the scientific foundations of a green economy are constantly evolving, and the principles of transition to it are becoming widely known. To help narrowing the existing gap between theory and practice of the transition to a green economy, the article proposes principles for investing in this process. Their application in the practice of regulating sustainable development will allow more accurate taking into account the factors that hinder the replacement of traditional technologies with low-carbon and nature-saving ones.
