Abstract: The development of tourism in old industrial areas is often chaotic, inconsistent, fragmented, and does not have a strategic focus for the region's economy. This is the main reason for the instability in the development of the business environment of the old industrial tourism clusters. Lack of strategy, uncoordinated marketing efforts, as well as poor quality of services negatively affects the state of tourism in old industrial clusters. Mining tourism is one of the innovative forms of tourism, which in recent years has become an opportunity for the development of old industrial regions or a supplement to the tourist offer in regions with a diversified economy. The article discusses various aspects of mining tourism in different regions of the world, shows the perception of tourists visiting mines and other mining and geological objects. The factors of the competitiveness of mining tourism, determined in accordance with the model of the "diamond" of the national competitiveness of M. Porter, are presented. The main findings are important for local governments and private tourism marketing businesses to develop and manage a tourism product that meets the needs of their clients. The factors of development of mining tourism are considered and the scheme of their interaction is presented.
