Abstract: For the analysis of social and economic development problems of large resource regions, it is reasonable to use allocation of the economic zones which as their part. One of approaches to the analysis of opportunities of economic zones development is connected to the implementation of SWOT analysis technique. It can be complemented with more detailed representation and analysis of blocks of crossings of factors of internal and external environment. On the basis of forte and weak side, external opportunities and threats, the actions promoting implementation of strategic tasks of social and economic development of Yakutia’s Southern economic zone were identified and analyzed. It is shown that the policy directed to effective implementation of new resource projects, stimulation the development of raw materials extracting, formation of favorable conditions for local service and mining companies suppliers, development of external integration relations is essential for development of this zone.
